Engine Warm-Up Procedure

1. If ambient temperature is above 41°F (5°C), warm up the engine for 2 to 3 minutes before getting underway. 2. If ambient temperature is below 41°F (5°C), raise the fast idle lever to achieve approximately 2,000 rpm and warm up the engine for at least 10 minutes. WARNING: Cruising at high speed without warming up the engine may cause engine damage. The cooling system may freeze at or below 32°F (0°C). 3. During the warm-up period, monitor the oil pressure indicator (p. 49), overheat indicator (p. 49), and cooling system indicator (p. 50) for any abnormal conditions. WARNING: If any indicator shows an abnormal condition, immediately stop the engine and determine the cause. Refer to TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS on p. 115. 4. If the fast idle lever was used, gradually lower the lever as the engine warms up. WARNING: If the engine is not properly warmed up before raising engine speed, the buzzer and overheat indicator may activate and engine speed will be automatically reduced. 5. Once the fast idle lever is fully lowered, the control lever can be moved away from the N (neutral) position.
