Procedure
Pre-Season Engine Startup After Off-Season Storage
1. Check that the shift and throttle function properly. Turn the propeller shaft when checking the shift function to avoid damaging the shift linkage. 2. Check the electrolyte level, and measure the voltage and specific gravity of the battery. 3. Check that the battery is secure and the battery cables are properly installed. 4. Change the engine oil (See page 68). 5. Before starting the engine, disconnect the stop switch lock and crank approximately 10 times to prime the oil pump. 6. Fill the fuel tank completely. 7. Start the engine and warm up for 3 minutes in the NEUTRAL position. 8. Run the engine for 5 minutes at the slowest speed. 9. Run the engine for 10 minutes at half throttle to circulate out the storage oil and assure optimum performance.
