Engine Oil Change – Final Steps
1. Return the outboard motor to the vertical position and fill the crankcase with the specified amount of the recommended oil (see p. 91). WARNING: Do not overfill. Overfilling the engine will cause it to smoke or have oil leaks. 2. Start the engine and check for oil leaks. WARNING: Running the engine without water can cause serious engine damage. If changing the oil filter while the outboard motor is out of the water, use commercially available earmuffs and a hose to supply water. 3. Stop the engine and check the oil level as described on page 89. If necessary, add oil to bring the oil level to the upper limit mark on the dipstick.
