Initial Engine Start / Fuel System Fill and Starting Procedure
1. Set the lanyard stop switch to the "RUN" position. Refer to General Information – Lanyard Stop Switch. 2. Shift the outboard to the neutral (N) position. 3. For initial start of a new engine, or an engine that ran out of fuel or was drained of fuel: Turn the ignition key switch to the "ON" position for approximately one minute to operate the fuel lift pump. WARNING: This step is required for new engines or engines that ran out of / were drained of fuel before attempting to start. 4. Turn the ignition key switch back to the "OFF" position, then return to the "ON" position for an additional one minute to continue filling the fuel system. 5. Turn the ignition key switch back to the "OFF" position. The fuel system filling is now complete. 6. Turn the ignition key to the "START" position and release the key. The electronic starting system will automatically crank the engine for starting. If the engine fails to start, the engine will stop cranking — turn the key to "START" again until the engine starts.
