Emergency Starting (Starter Rope)

1. Attach engine stop switch lanyard to clothing or any part of the body (e.g., arm) before starting. WARNING: Start-in-gear protection does NOT function when using the emergency starter rope. Ensure the shift lever is in the NEUTRAL position before starting; failure to do so will cause the engine to move the boat immediately and may cause personal injury. 2. Remove the top cowl. WARNING: Do not re-attach the flywheel cover or top cowl after the engine has been started, to prevent accident and injury from rotating parts. 3. Remove the starter lock cable from the recoil starter by loosening the screw for the starter lock cable. 4. Ensure no bystanders are positioned behind the engine before pulling the starter rope. WARNING: Do not pull the starter rope if any bystander is behind. The action can injure the bystander. 5. Be careful that clothing or other items do not get caught in rotating engine parts. WARNING: Entanglement in rotating engine parts can cause serious personal injury. Tools: Emergency starter rope, Screwdriver (for starter lock cable screw)
