Emergency Starting using starter rope

1. Check the cooling water from the cooling water check port. WARNING: Ensure engine is running properly before proceeding. 2. Ensure the shift is in the NEUTRAL position. Start-in-gear protection does NOT work when using the emergency starter rope. WARNING: If the gear is in Forward or Reverse, the boat can start moving immediately and may lead to accident and personal injury. 3. Attach the engine stop switch lanyard to clothing or a part of the body such as the wrist or arm before starting the outboard motor. 4. Remove the top cowl. 5. Remove the starter lock cable from the recoil starter by loosening the screw for the starter lock cable. 6. Remove the 3 bolts and remove the recoil starter. 7. Insert the knotted end of the starter rope into the notch in the flywheel and wind the rope around the flywheel several turns clockwise. WARNING: Be careful that clothing or other items do not get caught in the rotating parts. Do not re-attach the flywheel cover, recoil starter, or top cowl after the engine has been started. Do not pull the starter rope if any bystander is around. Tools: screwdriver (for starter lock cable screw), wrench/socket (for recoil starter bolts)
