Procedure
Gear Oil Change – Lower Unit
1. Tilt down the outboard motor. WARNING: Be sure to lock the outboard motor in the tilt up position before any service to prevent accidental fall, which could cause severe personal injury. Do not go under the outboard motor while it is in the tilt up position. 2. Remove both the lower and upper oil plugs, and completely drain the gear oil into a pan. 3. Insert the oil tube nozzle into the lower oil plug hole. Fill with gear oil (approx. 320 mL / 10.8 fl.oz., API GL-5: SAE #80 to #90) by squeezing the oil tube until oil flows out of the upper plug hole and all bubbles disappear, ensuring air is fully removed. 4. Install the upper oil plug first, then remove the oil tube nozzle and install the lower oil plug. Use new gaskets on both plugs. (torque: 4 N·m (3 ft·lb, 0.4 kgf·m)) WARNING: Do not reuse oil plug gaskets. Always use new gaskets and tighten oil plugs properly to prevent water entry into the lower unit. Tools: oil pan, oil tube with nozzle Parts: Gear Oil (API GL-5: SAE #80 to #90), Lower Oil Plug Gasket (new), Upper Oil Plug Gasket (new)
