Engine Starting Procedure

1. Leave the fast idle lever in the OFF (fully lowered / lowest) position. Note: The fast idle lever cannot be raised unless the control lever is in the N (neutral) position, and the control lever cannot be moved away from neutral unless the fast idle lever is lowered. 2. Turn the ignition switch key to the ON position. The buzzer will sound twice to confirm power-on. WARNING: Do not turn the ignition switch key to the START position while the engine is already running — this can damage the starter motor and flywheel. 3. Turn the ignition switch key to the START position and hold it until the engine starts. WARNING: Do not crank the starter for more than 5 seconds at a time; doing so will overheat the starter motor and can damage it. 4. Once the engine starts, release the key and allow it to return to the ON position. 5. If the engine fails to start within 5 seconds, release the key and wait at least 10 seconds before attempting to operate the starter again.
