Procedure
Checking Boat Transom Construction
1. Determine the strength of the boat transom before mounting the outboard. WARNING: The outboard mounting locknuts and bolts must be able to hold 75 Nm (55 lb-ft) of torque without the boat transom yielding or cracking. 2. Apply 75 Nm (55 lb-ft) of torque to the outboard mounting locknuts and bolts and inspect the transom for yielding (deformation) or cracking. WARNING: If the boat transom yields or cracks under this torque, the construction of the transom may not be adequate. 3. If the transom yields or cracks, strengthen the transom or increase the load carrying area before proceeding with outboard installation.
