1. Place outboard in a vertical operating position. 2. Remove the oil drain plugs (upper and lower), and completely drain the gear oil into a pan.

Procedure · 1. Tilt the outboard so that the oil drain plug is at the lowest point. 2. Place the drain pan below the outboard. 3. Remove the vent plug (a) and fill/drain plug (b) and drain lubricant.
Diagnostic · Cause: Recoil/rewind starter mechanism failure Test: Remove upper motor cover and recoil starter; wrap rope around starter pulley and pull quickly to verify manual start capability
