Shifting into Forward or Reverse

1. Ensure the boat is properly moored. WARNING: Make sure no swimmers are around the boat. 2. Verify that the outboard motor can be steered fully to the right and left. 3. Attach the emergency stop switch lanyard to the operator's PFD or arm. WARNING: Do not attach lanyard to clothing that can be easily torn. Arrange lanyard so it cannot be caught by any object. 4. Reduce engine speed to slow idle position before shifting. WARNING: Shifting at high engine speed will cause gear and clutch damage. 5. Shift into the desired gear (Forward or Reverse). WARNING: Do not shift into Reverse during planing or at high boat speed. Do not shift into Reverse during cruising. 6. Accelerate and decelerate gradually to avoid throwing passengers overboard. WARNING: Sudden acceleration or deceleration may cause passengers to be thrown overboard or fall down.
