Spark plug inspection and replacement

1. Stop the engine. WARNING: Do not touch spark plugs immediately after stopping the engine as they will be hot and could cause severe burns. 2. Remove the top cowl. 3. Remove the spark plug caps. 4. Remove the spark plugs by turning counter-clockwise using a 5/8" (16 mm) socket wrench and handle from the tool bag. 5. Inspect the spark plug. Replace if electrodes are worn or if insulators are cracked or chipped. WARNING: Do not reuse a spark plug if the insulation is damaged or if sparks can leak through a crack — this could lead to electric shock, explosion, and/or fire. 6. Measure the spark plug gap with a wire type feeler gauge. The gap should be 0.8–0.9 mm (0.031–0.035 in). If out of specification, replace with a new spark plug (NGK DCPR-6E). When reusing, clean dirt from electrodes and verify the gap. WARNING: Use only the recommended spark plug (NGK DCPR-6E). Spark plugs with a different heat range may cause engine damage. 7.
