Common questions

Is this safe? What if it's wrong?+
Boat Guru's answers can be wrong. For safety-critical work — fuel lines, electrical, steering, or anything that could leave you stranded or in flames — have a certified mechanic verify it before you start. We won't help you bypass kill switches or skip torque specs. See the full disclaimer.
What does it cover?+
It is not limited to engines. Boat Guru covers whole-boat repairs and questions across hull/deck, plumbing, electrical and electronics, steering, anchoring, trailers, sailing systems, onboard equipment, safety, seamanship, and propulsion—including vintage hardware.
Can I cancel?+
Yes, anytime, from your account. Subscriptions stop at the end of the period — no prorated refunds, but no surprise charges either. Monthly members may be offered a Seasonal Pause while canceling.
Do you use my chats to improve Boat Guru for other people?+
No. We use a secure service from Anthropic to prepare answers, but it does not use your messages to improve its service. We don't sell your data or use it to improve tools for other companies.
What if my boat is something weird?+
Start your 14-day Plus or Pro trial and put your specific engine through its paces. If BoatGuru isn't useful, cancel before the trial ends and pay nothing.
