Cleaning and Flushing the Outboard Motor (Garden Hose Method)

1. After each use in salt water or dirty water, wash the outside of the outboard motor with clean, fresh water. WARNING: Do not apply water or corrosion inhibitor directly to electrical components under the engine cover, such as the AC generator, AC generator belt, or timing belt. Cover these with a protective material before applying corrosion inhibitor. 2. Touch up any damaged paint and coat areas that may rust with Honda Corrosion Inhibitor or equivalent. 3. Lubricate controls with a silicone spray lubricant. 4. Remove the emergency stop switch clip so the engine cannot be started while standing near the propeller. WARNING: Do not run the engine when flushing the outboard motor with a garden hose or the outboard motor may be damaged. 5. Disconnect the fuel hose connector from the outboard motor. 6. Tilt down the outboard motor. 7. Disconnect the flush port connector.
