Procedure
Outboard Motor Storage
1. If removing the outboard motor from the boat for storage, store it vertically by mounting it on a commercially available stand. 2. If horizontal storage is necessary, drain the vapor separator (refer to pp. 110–111) before removing the outboard motor from the boat. WARNING: Do not skip draining the vapor separator before horizontal storage. 3. If horizontal storage is necessary, drain the engine oil (refer to p. 91) before removing the outboard motor from the boat. 4. Rest the outboard motor on a cushion of protective material if stored horizontally. 5. Cover the outboard motor to keep out dust. Do not use a plastic sheet as a dust cover; use a porous cover to prevent trapping moisture. WARNING: A nonporous cover (such as plastic) will trap moisture, promoting rust and corrosion.
