Post-Submersion Engine Recovery Procedure
6. Attempt to start the engine. Ensure the water level is at least 2 inches (5 cm) above the antiventilation plate before running. WARNING: Running the outboard motor without sufficient cooling water will damage the water pump and overheat the engine. 6.1. If the engine fails to start, remove the spark plugs and dry them, then reinstall the spark plugs and attempt to start the engine again. 6.2. If the engine starts and no mechanical damage is evident, continue to run the engine for a minimum of 30 minutes. Maintain water level at least 2 inches (5 cm) above the antiventilation plate. WARNING: Insufficient water level during extended run will cause overheating and water pump damage. 7. As soon as possible, take the outboard motor to an authorized Honda Marine dealer for inspection and service.
