Propeller Installation

1. Remove the emergency stop switch clip from the emergency stop switch to prevent accidental engine start. WARNING: The propeller blades may have sharp edges; wear heavy gloves to protect your hands. 2. Apply marine grade grease to the propeller shaft. 3. Install the thrust washer with the grooved side toward the gear case. 4. Install the propeller. 5. Install the washer as shown in the manufacturer's diagram. 6. Lightly tighten the castle nut by hand or wrench until the propeller has no free play. 7. Tighten the castle nut using a torque wrench to the initial tightening torque. (torque: 0.7 lbf·ft) 8. Continue tightening the castle nut with a torque wrench until the first available groove in the castle nut aligns with the cotter pin hole. Do not tighten past the first alignment. (torque: 33 lbf·ft) WARNING: Do not tighten the castle nut above the tightening torque limit of 33 lbf·ft (44 N·m, 4.5 kgf·m) or the propeller and shaft may be damaged. 9. Replace the cotter pin with a new Honda Genuine stainless steel cotter pin or equivalent, and bend the pin ends as shown in the diagram.
