Procedure
Steering Friction Adjustment
1. Locate the steering adjustment screw on the outboard. WARNING: Insufficient friction adjustment can cause serious injury or death due to loss of boat control. Maintain sufficient steering friction to prevent the outboard from steering into a full turn if the tiller handle or steering wheel is released. 2. Turn the adjustment screw counterclockwise to achieve lighter steering. 3. Turn the adjustment screw clockwise to achieve heavier steering. 4. Verify that sufficient friction is maintained to prevent uncontrolled full-turn steering when tiller handle or steering wheel is released.
