Pre-Starting Check List
1. Confirm operator knows safe navigation, boating, and operating procedures. 2. Ensure an approved personal flotation device of suitable size is aboard and readily accessible for each person (required by law). 3. Ensure a ring type life buoy or buoyant cushion designed to be thrown to a person in the water is aboard. 4. Know the boat's maximum load capacity by checking the boat capacity plate. 5. Verify fuel supply is OK. 6. Arrange passengers and load so weight is distributed evenly and everyone is seated in a proper seat. 7. Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to return. 8. Do not operate a boat while under the influence of alcohol or drugs (illegal). 9. Know the waters and area you will be boating, including tides, currents, sand bars, rocks, and other hazards. 10. Make inspection checks listed in Maintenance – Inspection and Maintenance Schedule.
